Diabetes Dialogue
Hi, everyone! Welcome to our Diabetes Prevention Program podcast. I'm [Host's Name], and I'm excited to help you on this journey to better health. Today, we'll introduce you to the Prevent T2 program, discuss its goals, and get you started on making your first action plan.

Let's start with an overview of the program. Prevent T2 is designed for people with prediabetes and those at high risk for type 2 diabetes. Our goals are simple but impactful:
-
Lose at least 5 to 7 percent of your starting weight.
-
Get at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week.
Please take a look at the handouts in your Participant Notebook. These will help you understand what prediabetes is, how many people are affected, and the health problems related to it. We'll also discuss how you can lower your risk.

The goal of this program is to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. Let's go through some basics. Type 2 diabetes can harm you in many ways, but you can control some risk factors, such as your weight and activity levels.

Now, let's talk about your next steps. Turn to the "Your Six-Month Goals" page in your notebook. Your activity goal is to get at least 150 minutes of moderate activity each week. For your weight goal, aim to lose 5 to 7 percent of your starting weight.

For example, if you weigh 200 pounds, losing 5 percent means shedding 10 pounds. Losing 7 percent means 14 pounds. Let's fill in your current weight and your goal weight in your notebook.
To help you succeed, you'll make a new action plan at each session.
Turn to your Action Plan Journal and look at the "Tips for Making Your Action Plan" page. Here are six things to keep in mind:
-
Be realistic.
-
Make it doable.
-
Be specific.
-
Be flexible.
-
Focus on behaviors.
-
Make it enjoyable.
Next, list three actions you'll take to reach your goal. Specify where, when, and how long you'll do these actions. Also, think about any challenges you might face and how to cope with them.
We've come to the end of our session. Today, we discussed the Prevent T2 program, its goals, and the basics of type 2 diabetes. You also set your six-month goals and made your first action plan. I'm so proud of you for taking this step!

Between now and our next session, work on your action plan and check off each action you complete. Thank you for joining us, and I look forward to seeing you next time!
